VOLUME 23 - ARNALDO ANTUNES (2)

It's the end of the year so, as everybody, Pocketmusic is gonna take a break. But we leave our guests in great company, presenting some precious leftovers of artists that had a very special participation in our brief history.

In the New Year' Special Volume, we're back in the energetic and inspiring creativity of Arnaldo Antunes, that when spending an afternoon with us, in august of 2007, had so much breath and disposition to record not only 2 videos, but four, and some of them was recorded in different places, too. Here is a chance to know the other two songs that were left out of his first volume.

SIDE A - CIDADE
(city)
august 2007 - são paulo (sp) - on the viaduct

"Cidade" (Arnaldo Antunes) is the side A and was shot in a landscape that suits perfectly this song. It's a viaduct that is really crowd and known in São Paulo's downtown called "Viaduto do Chá".

SIDE B - SEM VOCÊ
(without you)
august 2007 - são paulo (sp) - in the bus

The side B, maybe, best represents what Pocketmusic stands for. Playing and singing "Sem Você" (Arnaldo Antunes/Carlinhos Brown) in a bus, going up a famous street in São Paulo called Rua da Consolação, Arnaldo Antunes mixes up freedom and spontaneity and the natural and instantly combination of music and the space that surrounds it that we are always persuiting, but, not always is possible. And, in this case, the fact of the bus' noises doesn't allowed a perfect sound of this music, doesn't take away the singular and great pocketshow that was made.

VOLUME 22 - PATO FU + fernanda takai & érika machado

It's the end of the year so, as everybody, Pocketmusic is gonna take a break. But we leave our guests in great company, presenting some precious leftovers of artists that had a very special participation in our brief history.

In our Christmas' Special Volume, the artists that opened our website - and also our eternal "godfathers" - returns with two bonus videos, shot in Belo Horizonte and, since then, never showed before. In both, we captured some really special moments.

SIDE A - SIMPLICIDADE
(simplicity)

june 2007 - belo horizonte (mg) - in the backyardigan

The side A belongs totally to Pato Fu, showing the song "Simplicidade", that is part of the CD "Toda cura para todo mal" and in which was performed by a robotic vocal of Fernanda Takai. In the shows it was performed by a robot called "Silício", that was previously quoted here. In a small group, Fernanda, John and Lulu played to us this cosy version of the song.

SIDE B - AS COISAS
(the things)
june 2007 - belo horizonte (mg) - in the kitchen

Here, Fernanda is sharing this sweet moment with Érika Machado, in the side B. They performed together "As Coisas" (Érika Machado/ Cecília Silveira) in a restaurant's kitchen that was cooking for a special party that day. We also had lunch there and it's no myth, the food of Minas Gerais is just perfect.

In both videos, there's high quality music with the most charismatic musicians. So, this is Christmas and there could not have been a better present that we could offer.

VOLUME 21 - CIBELLE

If anyone will ask Cibelle to describe her music, he'll find the words "tropical/punk" - in this order. But there's something more in her. On the stage or in the record, the artist combines her beautiful voice with tender acoustic instrumentations, toys' sounds, enthusiastics guitars, eletronic effects and other surprises. Cibelle was born in São Paulo and lives in London, sings in french, portuguese and english. She's inovator and classic at the same time.

She came to Brazil to perform in Tim Festival's "Novas Divas" and she stayed a little bit longer for her solo concert. And it was in her busy sound check, in the inspired Auditório do Ibirapuera, that Cibelle took away all her instruments and offered us the old and good combination of just voice and guitar. And it wasn't needed more than 15 minutes to shoot her.

SIDE A - WHITE HAIR
november 2007 - são paulo (sp) - on the stairs

"White hair" (Cibelle) was the side A, which is a never heard before song, that she's been performing in her live concerts. It was recorded on the stairs, in the middle of some old posters of previous performances at that same place, where she was going to play that night.

SIDE B - INSTANTE DE DOIS
(moment of two)
november 2007 - são paulo (sp) - on the ground

"Instante de dois", the side B, also written by her, is a track from her most recent album "Shine of Dried Electric Leaves" (2006). It was recorded under the brilliant sculpture of Tomie Ohtake, that, with its superlative's proportions, at the same time, brought contrast and complement to the sweetness of the song.

VOLUME 20 - WADO e o realismo fantástico

Wado is from Santa Catarina, but is rooted in Alagoas. He is on the road since the 90's. In 2000, he left the band "Santo Samba" and left to a solo career. The adaptation was fast and, in the next year, he was recording his first album created in this loneliness. "Manifesto da Arte Periférica" (2001) had already showed the personal path in the musical experiment in which Wado will go through from that moment on, searching for the perfect beat. The tracks in this album, as well the ones from the next two albums, "Cinema auditivo" (2002) and "A farsa do samba nublado" (2004) are available for free download in the artist website.

SIDE A - TARJA PRETA/FAFA
(black label/fafa)
october 2007 - são paulo (sp) - in the apartment

Passing through São Paulo, Wado could accept our invitation, made a long time ago. With his band, he needed to be plugged to perform "Tarja Preta/Fafa" (Wado/Siri), so it made us run into one of our members' apartment to use some amateur equipament. For a song that is two in one, this side A, separates and unites Wado with his musicians, between the bathroom, the kitchen and the living room.

SIDE B - MATA GENTE (SAUDADE)
[it kills us (missing you)]
october 2007 - são paulo (sp) - on the stairs

Going a little bit far away from the apartment, we took the stairs as a cenary to the next never heard before song "Mata Gente (Saudade)" (Wado/ Rodrigo Sappo/Railton Sarmento/Antônio Pereira de Moraes). The result of this is a great beautiful moment, between the cold marble and the sunset light.

VOLUME 19 - MAYRA ANDRADE

Mayra Andrade is a brazilian that wasn't born in Brazil. She was born in Cuba, but she exhibits with a lot of honor her title as a cape verdean singer and it was with the cape verdean creole regional language that she recorded most of her tracks in her debut cd, "Navega" (2006). She has a lot of brazilian influence, she speaks our portuguese with no accent at all and some of the musicians that work with her, on stage and in the studio, are brazilians. So, we could not lose this opportunity to have her incredible and intense musicality and her husky and sweet voice, here, in the website. And she accepted this invitation with a lot of enthusiasm and kindness.

SIDE A - Tunuka
october 2007 - são paulo (sp) - on the parallelepiped

To keep incresing her conexion with Brazil, Mayra asked Mariana Aydar to share with her the vocals of the side A "Tunuka" (from the really important musician from Cape Verde, Orlando Pantera), composition that Mariana already sang in her concerts.

SIDE B - MANA
october 2007 - são paulo (sp) - in the patio

For the side B, Mayra asked the brazilian percussionist Zé Luis Nascimento to play with her "Mana" (Mayra Andrade). While she played the guitar, he played the ocean drum and the tamá.

With a multicultural sonority, but at the same time with a strong identity and beauty, Mayra is an artist to be discovered. It's a pleasure to introduce her.

VOLUME 18 - ZÉLIA DUNCAN

It's not from today that Zélia Duncan likes to say that her dream is that one day every brazilian is gonna sing, at least, one of Itamar Assumpção' song by heart. Since her album "Intimidade" (Intimacy, 1996), she makes use of the paulista composer's repertoire in every work of hers. Itamar, himself, asked Zélia to sing with him the track "Dor Elegante" (composed with Paulo Leminski, a great brazilian poet) in his 1998's album, PretoBrás. The experience was so powerful to Zélia that, at that same week, she decided to make a tatoo in her arm.

SIDE A - NEGA MÚSICA
(black music)
october 2007 - são paulo (sp) - in the corner

The first of future colaborations of Zélia here, in Pocketmusic, is dedicated to Itamar. The first song, the side A, comes from the first LP of the composer, "Beleléu, Leléu, Eu", released in 1980 by the independent label Lira Paulistana. "Nega Música" (Itamar Assumpção) was never heard before in Zélia's voice. No longer, it is.

SIDE B - DOR ELEGANTE
(elegant pain)
october 2007 - são paulo (sp) - in the tatoo' studio

The side B is, literally, a song made by flesh and blood, since the day of shooting was made in a rush to register the new visit of the singer in a tatoo' studio called Leds Tatoo, where Zélia retouched the old tatoo "Dor Elegante".
